MIC: An Agent Formal Environment

Ubiquitous systems can be considered as good challenges and case studies for the reliable development of open, cooperative and mobile systems in a globally uncontrolled environment. Furthermore, the complexity of these systems could constitute a real barrier to classical engineering approaches and validate the foundations of agent based computing. In this paper, we have abstracted a composable ...

Requirements for Achieving Software Agents Autonomy and Defining their Responsibility

This paper addresses the problem of implementing agent-based software systems with respect to agent framework fundamental concepts such as autonomy and interaction without specifying any particular agent internal architecture. The autonomy and interaction axioms imply that a deployment environment has to be defined in order to achieve interaction among agents. This deployment environment may al...

Movement and interaction in semantic GRIDs: dynamic service generation for Agents in the MIC* deployment environment

We present in this position paper the foundations of the MIC* model and deployment environment as they have emerged in the last years, relate them to current evolutions on semantic GRID dynamic service generation, as reflected by OGSA/I and, more recently, by WSRF, and propose an integrated view with the previously proposed STROBE model for communicating agents leading to a quite simple yet ver...

A Linear Objective Function-Based Heuristic for Robotic Exploration of Unknown Polygonal Environments

This work presents a heuristic for describing the next best view location for an autonomous agent exploring an unknown environment. The approach considers each robot as a point mass with omnidirectional and unrestricted vision of the environment and line-of-sight communication operating in a polygonal environment which may contain holes. The number of robots in the team is always sufficient for...

Multiagent Environment for Hybrid AI Models

To utilize the the concept of combining various modern artificial intelligence methods — namely neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic controllers — we develop a unified software platform called Bang2. The system serves as a library for many artificial intelligence methods and allows for easy creation of such combinations, and possibly their semi-automated generation, or even evolu...
